Well that's it for September, it was a very busy month! For October I am working on creating some custom pieces for Corporate Furniture in Ottawa, many of the paintings will be abstract and in rich earty colors.

Summer here has finally become a bit more hot, the rain gave way for the sun for a few days! I received a few custom painting requests this month. My cousin Claudia was also married and I painted her a custom elephant painting after getting her sister to spy out what kind of painting she wanted for her new home.

48" by 20" Elephant Painting for my cousin's wedding

64" by 20" Custom Cherry Blossom Painting
54" by 18" Custom Cherry Blossoms stormy background

24" by 36" each painting, commissioned pieces. One has the Chinese Character for Courage, and the other has Patience, these will look great under the right lighting.

54" by 18" another commissioned piece. This one has dark silver top/bottom bands, and a hint of gold in the silver for the center part. I love this color combination, so calming!

48" by 20" this is a custom adaptation of a painting I created about a year ago. This customer wanted it to measure 48" by 20" to go in her living room. You can see the inspiration piece here (the original dimensions are 45" by 30")

30" by 30" this piece I call 'Bubblegum Pop' and it is such a fun abstract with 'bubbles' of deep burgundy, vibrant red, lilacs and purples. What a fun piece! This painting and the next one were commissioned together to go into the same room.48" by 20" Cherry blossoms done with reds, purples and lilacs to go with Bubblegum Pop above :)

This custom piece was a wedding shower present commissioned by the sister-in-law to be of the bride to be. What a great gift idea :) It measures 15" by 30" and had a light bubble type background.

48" by 20" this painting I call "Greek Wave" I love the white and deep blue and it reminds me of the pure white houses in greece, and the beautiful deep blue ocean. This one is still for sale.

48" by 20" A burnt orange and burgundy commissioned piece, this painting and the one following were commissioned by someone from Ottawa. I wanted to create two versions for him to pick from so I reversed the colors. Personally I think I'd have a really tough time deciding between the two!!

48" by 20" Burgundy as main color with a Burt Orange Wave.

40" by 16" This piece is a fun exercise in using texture and fire colors with a retro flair. It has such a fun vibe! I call it "Summer Heat".

Well that's it for August's paintings so far :) I really like exploring more abstract paintings and have a lot of fun manipulating my paints in new ways!

June and July 2009

Well, the gallery exhibition in Toronto was quite an experience. I was able to meet a few really great people and it was nice to see so many other artist's work as well.

But the rest of the time in June/July was not that busy for me yet. The recession has really shown itself to me in the last couple of months because in spite of increased ads on my behalf, I've had the least amount of sold paintings since I've started painting. It seems like everyone is trying to save some money in these uncertain times. I did paint a few paintings, but not as much as usual. It is also nice to have my kids home for the summer and I spend more time with them as well in the summer :)

Well I have not posted in a while, here is what I have painted lately... It has been a very stressful month.. my husband was laid off his work place and our investment property was burned down by one of our tenants. Dealing with insurance is really draining my energy.

Well, last week the bakery let me know they had sold 5 paintings already, that together with the two my mom bought and another one that now belongs to my sister, their stock at the bakery was dangerously low, so I painted some more paintings for them. These are mostly horse, cow and moose paintings, plus one with an elephant family. I love painting silhouettes!

I called this painting "Just the two of us"

My son really loved the calf in this painting, he keeps calling it "Baby" :)

Here is a mother moose and its calf.

I call this painting "Cow on a Hill" not very imaginative, but it fit hehe.. this is my first try with pine trees. I would like to try this in color.

"Family of Moose" is the title of this painting. I really like how they appear to be walking across a lake with the reflection of the moon between the male and the female..

"Happyness" is the name of this painting with two horses nuzzling each other in the sunset.

I called this painting "Daisy", the name of my childhood horse. This is how daisy used to wait for me at the fence on a cold winter night to go back to the barn. I wish I could keep this painting for myself! I felt a bit homesick for Daisy when I painted this.

"Family of Elephants" is the only elephant painting I created this time, I wanted to try some other animals this week :)

First a baby elephant walking up a hill...
This painting I called "The Father" because it's one big daddy of an Elephant! I love the way the tree has turned out in this painting. When my mom saw the painting she wanted it so it is now in her house near the entrance :)

This painting is a mother elephant and her baby. This painting is framed since I received a few sample frames from Gotrick Inc. They just added some new framed canvases to their line of canvses.

Here is another elephant painting.. I like how the sun looks in this picture.. it has a nice texture and shading. I like this frame as well.. it has a more contemporary look with it's square appearance, it's 2 inches thick but I don't like it's color much. Black would have went better.. but the frame is paintable :)

Here is a night painting of a small elephant herd... Grazing under the cover of the moon.

Here is another sunset painting with elephants, this painting measures 30" wide and 15" tall.

Here is a sheep looking into (or away from) the sunset. The sheep is pregnant in case you're wondering why it is so fat! :D

Here is my try at painting a male moose. This painting is framed as well with a 1 inch deep floating frame look, also from Gotrick inc. This is my favorite of their new frames.

That's all for the animals I have painted in January. It is not my usual painting style, but I have thorougly enjoyed painting these animal silhouettes. My sister in law suggested I try horses next so I might do that :)

Well this month I've been busy trying something new. Elephants, Moose, some birds, a sheep and a few cows in sihouette against sunsets or blazing blue skies. I love the african trees that I painted, they are such a joy to paint! I also painted a few beach scenes with palm trees. All these paintings are for Klaesi's Bakery since they sold many pieces over Christmas and needed something new for their walls!

I call this painting "Which side of the fence are you on?" Looking at these cows I feel a bit homesick since I grew up on a farm :)These birds are sitting on a cliff.. I like how the big one seems to be towering over the small one :)A sunset painting.. I like how the water reflects the sun.
Here is another beach scene.. a small sailboat drifts in the morning breeze.. This painting reminds me of the beach after a storm with the sky having hints of reds and the water a deep blue/green color.

Delivery of Blank Canvases

Well, I just stopped 'blogging' (lol it sounds so weird!) and got a large delivery of new canvases. It's always exciting to get a new load of fresh canvases! They come directly from Gotrick Inc. where I order cavanases every few months. The funny thing is that they always ship them in spice cardboard boxes.. they always smell so exotic when they first arrive :)

It was snowing so heavily outside I felt sorry for the delivery guy. He was very kind to bring them to the garage for me (since I don't have a loading dock and he isn't obligated to get them off the truck for me). I'll be placing all the canvases into the basement where I will paint when my baby is napping. His name is Thomas and I work around his nap times. He just had a shower and I couldn't resist snapping a photo of him :)

Anyways, back to the art blog, I will be updating this sometime soon.

Well I finally did it.. I started a blog!

Starting something is much easier then maintaining it.. let's just hope that I find the time and energy to let people into my painting world :)

Today I am actually quite swamped with work. Three different people have ordered paintings that I will be working on all this week. Often people see a painting on my website (www.oneofakindmosaics.com/NathalieVansPaintings/) that has already sold, and want me to paint it again. This is what is happening this week. I really don't like to repaint something, but I kind of have to if people fall in love with something that has already sold :)

Well, something I really want to work on are some new elephant paintings. A silhouette sunset with african trees in the background.. I have finished the background and will be posting some photos when it looks more completed :D
